St. Philip The Apostle’s Mission Church in Young AZ Founded by Rev. William Louis Gyure (Father Bill) St. Benedicts Mission in Young, Arizona was established on the 1st Tuesday of Advent in November 2006. It has met in various locations including the Young Community Center, the high school math room, the Art room of the Young Public School and the school cafeteria. Masses are at 5:30PM on Tuesdays throught the year. The mission received its name from the Bishop of Tucson, Gerald F. Kicanas D.D. in September of 2007. Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and Anointing of the Sick have been received at the mission. This mission is known for its professional choir and its friendly atmosphere. On several occations the choir has participated in an exchange of choirs with the Young Arizona Church of the Latter Day Saints and each year it holds the Stations of the Cross for the entire town of Young. This is another historic on going chapter in St. Philip the Apostle Parish story. The First Baptism, The First Holy Communion and The First Confirmation happened in our own Young Arizona Mission Church on April 10, 2007. This is a First ever in the 2000 year history of the Church that Young has participated in the Spiritual Ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church. Congratulations to you all for being so dedicated and we are all especially thankful for you Betty Lou. On May 12, 2009, our First Communion class of two students received Holy Communion in a special Mass Liturgy. The students were prepared by Mr. & Mrs. Pat Murdoch, as an extension of the Catechetical program in Young, AZ of the St. Philip the Apostle Parish The students were the sons of Mr. & Mrs. Pat Murdoch and Mr. & Mrs. C.J. Bigsby. Congratulations to both of them.
